Zimbabwe added to list of countries with hunger hotspots: WFP

Zimbabwe has been added to the list of countries with hunger hotspots. A designation for places where food insecurity is expected to worsen over the next six months. This is according to the World Food Program (WFP) report of May 2022. The report also finds that conflict and climate shocks will continue to drive acute hunger in the outlook period from June to September 2022. Zimbabwe’s volatile economic situation, which has failed to recover from the shocks of COVID-19, is largely attributed to driving food insecurity in cities. Some NGOs have embarked on pilot projects to help build resilience and hunger in Zimbabwean cities.
