Sri Lanka declares state of emergency as president Rajapaksa flees

Sri Lanka’s prime minister’s office has declared a state of emergency. The declaration comes hours after President Gotabaya Rajapaksa left the country. Rajapaksa was due to resign as president on Wednesday. He has not been seen in public since last Friday. Residents are protesting as Sri Lanka is experiencing its worst economic crisis in 70 years.
