Events have been taking place around the world to mark International Holocaust Memorial Day, held each year on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp. The day honours the millions of Jews and other minorities murdered in the Second World War. This year, the German parliament will for the first time focus its commemorations on those killed and persecuted for their sexual or gender identity.
